Learn About Us

The Sheriff’s Youth Academy is a program that is designed to provide the youth in our communities the opportunity to gain insight into the everyday functions and training in many aspects of law enforcement.  The youth academy is NOT a boot camp for troubled youth. It is a program offered to students who have an interest in law enforcement as a career or to learn more.

The Academy is held at the Cumberland County Community Complex each summer for a week based on grade level.  Breakfast and lunch is provided each day and classes run from 8:00am to 2:00pm.

The curriculum includes Responding to Crisis Situations, Defensive Tactics, Handcuffing, Patrol Procedures, Traffic Enforcement, Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Processing, K-9 Units, S.W.A.T. Tactics and Overview of Criminal Justice System.

Participants must be able to complete physical training including a qualifying obstacle course.
